Ask the readers: What’s your dream job?

Today I’m introducing a new feature here on Passive Panda. It’s called Ask The Readers.

Every so often, I’ll ask you to leave a comment on a question about earning more money, time, and freedom. I certainly don’t have all of the answers, so I think we’ll definitely benefit from our collective wisdom.

And now that Passive Panda is reaching thousands of people everyday, I figure it’s about time we all get to know each other. (Thanks to CorbettPat, and JD for giving me the idea to run this segment.)

The question

The first Ask The Readers question is inspiring and important.

What’s your dream job?

As you probably know, Passive Panda is dedicated to bringing you information that helps you earn more money, more time, and more freedom.

In other words, Passive Panda is here to bring you to your dream job — to help you spend your days the way you want, while getting paid what you deserve.

Let’s get to know each other

Passive Panda has an incredible following of readers. I know because I hear from you all on a daily basis.

However, instead of just emailing, messaging, and tweeting with me, I would love for all of us to help each other.

Let’s make this post the start of that. Share your dream job, comment on others responses, and let’s help each of us get one step closer to the job we were meant to do.

So please, click here to leave a comment and tell us … what is your dream job?

  1. James Clear says:

    I’ll get us started.

My dream job is more for a feeling than an actual position. I love going after new opportunities, so what I’m doing and where I’m at will change over time. Sometimes that will be helping people by sharing ideas — like I do with Passive Panda. Other times, it might be sharing inspiration or artwork — like I do with my travel photography. And other times it might be interacting with people one at a time, face-to-face.

Regardless of what I’m doing, my dream job will always give me that feeling of, “This is right. This is where I’m supposed to be. This is what I’m supposed to be doing.”

    • John Kester says:

My dream job would be in environmental consulting. I want to help other people make the best decisions based upon both environmental and economic parameters. I love interacting with people and believe this would be a perfect job to travel and get to know our society. I care deeply about the environment and desire to find the best way to preserve it for all future generations to come.

    • Caleb Wojcik says:

I’d echo that it is more about a feeling than a position as well. It is not just about the money, work, or where, it is about the bigger picture.

    • DeAnna Anger says:

I love your dream job James. With coffee and books I feel that this is where I should be. I always wanted to write but I have never “gotten” around to it. The feeling is what I want to share with others. Relax and enjoy.

    • Tim says:

      Hey James,

How did you identify those were the characteristics of what a dream job would be (is the job what is seeking new opportunities, or the dream jobs are the new opportunities) — but if you had to hone it down into specifics like some of the comments below (organic farmer, web developer, freelancer), what would those be to give you those feelings?

    • It would be a dream come true to get an agent and become a published novelist. I work as a freelance writer right now. I’m partially living my dream as I’m getting paid to write, but I want to write creatively for a living.

    • Kyle says:

My dream job would be one where I am challenged every day and I get to be the one making the tough decisions that determine the success or failure of the company. A role where creativity lives and innovation is the only way.

  2. Dale Morris says:

    James,
I’m doing it — Freelance Graphic Design and Fine Art. Have been doing it for years and it just gets better and better. There is always a learning curve to keep me interested and always ways to improve on many levels.

Thanks for asking — always love your tweets,
    Best Regards,
    Dale

  3. Ryan Collins says:

I have no idea what my dream job would be. I have so many interests it would be hard to pick one – I guess I feel that if I were to narrow it down I would be missing out on something else. Damn perfectionism.

    • Shirley says:

I would have to agree with you Ryan and you also James. I don’t know what my dream job is, but I do know I’m looking for that feeling you get when you are able to help others.

  4. Lindsay says:

My dream job gives me freedom. Freedom to work when and where I want. Freedom to go skiing on Wednesdays. Freedom to create and explore and learn.

  5. Cesar says:

I’d like to be a freelance writer, traveling to cool places, meeting interesting people, making a difference in other’s lives through my words. If only …

  6. Lius Adrian says:

    Hi James,

I consider myself a creative and innovative individual who always challenges the way things are done and run. Having said that, I believe my dream job would be becoming my own boss! It’s where I can experiment with ideas and actualize myself. Meanwhile, being an influential figure in a corporation doesn’t sound half bad either =)

    Cheers,

    Lius

  7. Deneil says:

My dream job is to be the top blogger and coach in my niche. Teaching others is so rewarding and making a full-time living from that is not only a dream but a goal I am working on completing!

  8. Libby says:

I’d love to be a collector … but from home. Currently stuck in a cubicle. :(

  9. Paolino says:

My dream job is being a manager, or an executive. Maybe even a CEO. A position where I can take decisions and bring them on, where I can make the difference in people’s lives and in people’s way of working.

  10. Haroun Koka says:

My dream job is to be an organic farmer!

  11. Tina says:

I must be happy — right now what I do is close to my dream job. I’m creating, exploring, managing, planning, organizing and going through the curvy road of getting a startup to take the industry by storm with a team of great people who are more of friends than just colleagues. And all this way learning tons of new stuff and sharing loads of new ideas. What would really make it “the dream” job would be to be able to do all this remotely while travelling all around the world. Which I am sure will happen soon!

So here I should agree that Lindsay’s description pretty well fits.

Take care everyone and hope you all have your dream job!

  12. Paula says:

I am living into my dream job. I am a wedding officiant. I don’t do flowers, I don’t do food, I don’t do photos, what I DO is give couples a wedding ceremony that they will remember and cherish for a lifetime. Living in a military town, this is especially important to me as I often marry couples just before a deployment.

    • Laura Thomas says:

      Hi Paula:

I always thought this would be a wonderful thing to do as a marriage family therapist (which I am). Just curious where you got your training to do this and if you have a website, etc. Terrific and timely work!

      Fondly,
      Laura Thomas, MFT

    • Kriss says:

I was just recently looking into becoming a wedding officiant myself and I’m interested in knowing how you got started and what organization you received your certificate. I’d like to do it for religious and non-religious couples.

Thanks in advance for any information you can provide.

  13. Isabelle says:

I already have my dream job!

I show small businesses how they can work with their environmental and social impact – and profit from it. Though I am extremely passionate about that, it’s not what ultimately makes it a dream job. Building my own company, taking decisions, coming up with ideas – that is what makes it such a wonderful experience. Sure it has it’s ups and downs, but creating a business is for me a bit of a dream job in itself.

@John. Great that you’re interested in becoming an environmental consultant! I really love travelling too, I just thought I should point out that travel in many cases damages the environment more than “normal office activities”…

  14. Anthony says:

Film/TV/Video game composer/arranger. This would be my ultimate-of-all-time dream position. Oh, and if I could do some high end web design/development on the side, that would be a cherry on top.
    ;-)

  15. Billy says:

Like Cesar, I would love to be a decently paid freelance writer. I already freelance, but make next to nothing.

I also want to have my own helping Web site (I posted my addresses above, but I haven’t constructed the sites yet), somewhere along the lines of a life coach. I have a master’s in counseling and work with felony drug offenders every day, but I’d like to branch out into other areas.

I’d also love to be an author…my problem is persistence. I get halfway through a book, it gets difficult to keep up with the characters and plot line and come up with new ideas, and I move on to something else. ADHD at its finest!

Thanks for allowing us to post our dreams. I love this idea.

  16. Nuno Mindelo Jorge says:

My perfect job is one I do not need to have. It will be one I will perform just for pleasure. Without loosing ground, I am in the process of trying to hear my heart about what job will make me happy and then turn real and find out if it will earn me enough money to support my “not so middle class” preferences. Time is running…

    • Annie says:

I simply need/crave time and resources to heal others as a myomassologist, a mentor and teacher. I would love to do seminars and fairs showing others alternatives to traditional medicine. To write a blog/book and have a site with free videos and information about the healing arts.

  17. Chris Stott says:

Traveller. Ideally paid to test luxury resorts for Jetsetter.com or Mr. & Mrs. Smith. How sweet would that be!

    • My dream job is to do more of what I love to write, travel and perform.

To write books, plays, movies, poems, articles, etc.

To travel to all 7 continents with a speaking engagement on each (except Antarctica, hmmm, you never know :-)

      To perform poetry, plays, etc.

To connect with people with dreams and the guts to go after them.

      Thanks for asking us, James.
      -MsJ-

  18. Matthew says:

I would love to continue my web development career along the east coast, helping a number of companies develop their online presence. The only limitation in the hours I work would be the meetings and conferences I attend with others. Most importantly, the work I do and the companies I work with love those they serve and have a positive impact on the world around them.

    • Tim Webster says:

I think that’s pretty excellent, Matthew. When I began idealizing Technically Social, I thought that I would be exclusively helping companies that were philanthropic. Turns out that niche is not as popular as I thought! I’m still working with some cool people, but in a slightly different capacity than I had originally intended.

What I’m saying is, good for you, sir. It’s awesome that you’re able to fine-tune your business in a way that’s truly positive!

Let me know if I can help with anything!

  19. I am working on creating my dream job at this moment. I have a passion for tourism, writing and marketing. While I am only just at the beginning of my journey, someday I hope to expand to a place where I am travelling all over the world, helping tourism companies to create great content and maximize their marketing efforts.

  20. Peter Thomas says:

My dream job is to run my own video game company.

I’ve been playing games for as long as I can remember, and it’s always been a great joy to me: the way the story lines unfold, the character development, the different kinds of ‘systems’ used to create each game, the art behind them. The whole idea of games have always fascinated me.

I want to be able to return the favor. I want to make games that bring others the same joy I am given each time I pick up a copy of my favorite title. I want to be that company that people look forward to seeing at E3 and anticipate titles coming from us month in advance.

This has always been where I am supposed to be. I can fit into any job, and do what I’m told, but I feel that my creativity and passions will truly come to life when placed into this industry.

    • Tim Webster says:

That’s something that I enjoy, too. Not to say that creating a video game from soup to nuts would be my dream job – but it’s not too far off. I actually created a company about 6 months ago and we’re in the latter part of developing a proprietary Bluetooth gamepad for Android games. We’ve been talking to game developers about integrating the controller functionality into their games, which is cool.

To be respectful and not self promote on James’ site I won’t post a link, but shoot me an email if you’re interested in having a peak at what we’ve got going on.

Who knows! In 6 months to a year we might be the ones developing new mobile games! We think that mobile gaming on tablets and handhelds is going to become very popular in the near future so we’re pushing towards creating a more platform-based gaming experience on these devices.

Anyway, hope I haven’t talked your ears off. Just wanted to share my enthusiasm for video games!

      • James Clear says:

Tim, you’re more than welcome to post a relevant link. Anything done in good faith is welcome around here. :)

  21. Linda says:

My dream job is definitely a location independent and profitable lifestyle…that allows lots of time for family.

  22. Valerie says:

    My Dream Job –
    1. Destination weddings and events consultant.
    2. Photographer traveling around the world helping couples create the wedding and event of their dreams.
    3. Personal Counseling — helping people reach their maximum potential through motivation and paradigm shifting.

Thank you for letting me write my visions/dream and make them plain.

    Valerie

  23. I’m a senior move manager in southeast Florida.

My dream job is a client with 2,500 sq ft filled with 60 years of collecting who is HAPPY to have me help sort, pack, & organize it all to fit into a new 700 sq ft apartment. Every item has a story & the challenge is so much fun!

Unfortunately, not every job is a “dream”, but in this industry, even the nightmares are rewarding in the end.

    • Debi Goldben says:

Ooooooo — sounds like a great, interesting job. I need to look into something like that with the agencies around me. Organizing is right up my alley. :)

      • Debi – Check out nasmm.org and napo.net for more info on getting started (National Association of Senior Move Managers and National Association of Professional Organizers, respectively)

    • Kalon says:

      Jessica,
That sounds very interesting. How did you get into that? I am looking for a job. Maybe I will start this as a freelancer.
      Kalon

  24. Laura Thomas says:

I am in my first dream job – I am a psychotherapist in private practice, helping “traumatized creatives” heal from their traumas and begin (or continue) to create. I utilize both psychodynamic psychotherapy and hypnotherapy in my work.

I’m working towards my second dream job as a writer. Recently joined Camp NaNoWriMo and am finding the muse showing up a lot more regularly as I pound out my novel. Interesting that setting the intention of 50K words for July kicked her in the ass! (smile)

It took many years to get to dream job #1 and I don’t doubt it will take many thousands of words to be able to become a published and read author, so I say to everyone – persistence pays off! And set your intention – this helps bring the dream into reality.

  25. My dream job::

    Photographer and world traveler.
I love photographing people and seeing places I’ve never been.

  26. Paula says:

I’d love to paint and draw for a living. Entirely for a living I should say. Right now my day is 90% multimedia work, programming etc and maybe 10% art. I’ve been programming for 16 years now and I’m thinking it’s time for a change. My clients are great, my projects are mostly interesting … I’m just looking for less virtual work and more tangible, creative stuff.

  27. My dream job is close to what I do now: Helping English speaking people to translate their ideas and communicate with Spanish speakers, making bridges for these languages and cultures and be able to do that from home or everywhere else. My business is very small now, so I need to make it grow to be perfect.

    • Johanna Babra says:

Hi Carmen I am close to your dream I love to help people , I am new in canada and I am reseraching about what to do here and make a difference. I will love to do something that I can have the time to share with my two kids after school. Any Idea what to do from home?

  28. Raju says:

My dream job is work at Google as a technical manager in 2 yrs…

  29. My dream “job” would be turning my true life “Madness” blog snippets & stories into a book, then a screenplay, then a movie, and of course a Broadway show. (Hey, all the cool kids are doin’ it!)

I’ll supply the endless stories of insanity (plenty of it, and all true) and my payback would be watching folks laugh their &^**%#’s off and have a great ol’ time!

  30. Debi Goldben says:

My dream job is not a job at all but rather having enough money to live comfortably and volunteer my time whenever and wherever it’s needed. We also want to establish a not-for-profit theater for showing and introducing folks to older, less known movies.

  31. Tim Bailey says:

Is to travel the world and document everything through a travel blog, including video and photography. Through this effort over a few years (because it is necessary to stay in areas for a time maybe a month or two or even longer) learn more languages and cultures and show how we all are connected. To teach people that we are much closer to each other than we are different.

  32. I already have a pretty awesome job – I work in Marketing for a candy company, and I get to do fun things like go to tradeshows, work on the company website and make fun brochures and sell sheets for our sales team.

I love it, but even that’s not enough – so I have to think that what I want isn’t really a job, but a lifestyle business.

That business involves a number of things, which is good, since I get bored working on one project for too long. :)

Things like freelance writing for select clients, managing websites, running my own affiliate marketing websites and doing other fun stuff with my time. Ultimately, I want to help people, however that pans out financially.

  33. Awesome comments here. A dream job for me would be one in which I’d inspire + help people find their value + travel whenever I want.

Something that continuously gets more rewarding, one that’s perpetually challenging, forcing growth at all times.

At the end of the day, it’s about how happy you are — and a dream job would do just that, while leveraging your natural skills.

  34. Great question!

My dream job is based in audio and music. I would love to freelance in several studios and get more and more work producing music (my own and other people’s). I also have a strong background in technology which I would love to overlap on specific projects.

    Good luck with the search!

  35. Matthew says:

My dream job is to be a paid motorcycle rider. It would be a combination of blogging, writing for a magazine, travel photography, etc. Testing out bikes, modifying and working on them, seeing new places, camping, and exploring. It would cover many of my life goals and interests.

    • Ron Stewart says:

I’d like to do that too, see the Usa as a incognito courier on a bike. I’ve gotten a start once driving taxi a few years ago. I’ve been a chef most of my life, would love to write more.

  36. Chris Kulbab says:

Currently I am performing in my first dream job as an Employment Counselor. I spent over 16 years doing a job I hated every day — dragging myself into work because I was in paycheque prison. My first dream was to help anyone else that I could not make my mistakes and learn about themselves to make a better decision.

My next dream is to be a blogger, writer, and speaker, and to reach a bigger audience — I am on my way to this to. Much like you James, I am looking forward to sharing — your success is my success! Art takes many forms, and for me it is creating self-directed opportunities for everyone I can.

James, thanks for the insights here, and thank you for all your time and energies — I have already been able to benefit from some of your free tools, and of course will look forward to supporting you in other ways as well in the future.

  37. I may be starting to live mine. My ultimate dream job would be to write novels and screenplays for a living. I also want to consult and edit for other authors, maybe be an agent, and make movies.

Anything that enlightens writers and readers, and helps creative types pursue their dreams.

  38. Lisa T says:

My dream job is oddly specific. I would like to be the in-house artist/signmaker at my local Whole Foods. I love the idea of utilizing my skills in a fast-paced, always changing environment.

  39. My dream job would be professional soccer player, celebrity chef … or adult entertainer. =)

I was asked that question during a class at university, and I actually got up and said that.

  40. Laurie says:

To actually make some money writing my blog (which I love writing). And also, to get into small proofreading or small freelance writing jobs. I can’t seem to do that without a journalism degree or “previous experience…” but I can’t get “experience” unless someone gives me a chance, you know?

Some great dreams and ideas here.

  41. Rick B says:

My dream job; since my mind wonders through all types of creativity I would like to be involved in design from furniture design, product design and graphic design.

I would like to partner with a millwork/furniture company, design products or art using many different materials, create designs for logos, webpage graffiti, etc.

My first conquer would be the furniture since I currently design furniture and cabinetry for clients. I would like to put pieces in furniture showrooms.

Thanks James, I always enjoy your material and always take time to read and digest.

    Cheers!

  42. Benton says:

My dream job would be to make money while living like I have for the past three months. I quit my job and started traveling. I haven’t had a job in three months and I still have money to go, but now I’m trying to figure out how to make money while doing it and I think I’ve got it figured out and I’m doing it through creative digital marketing. I have the product now I just have to show the value in my work.

  43. Tom Owens says:

My dream job began one year ago. I’m blogging about my favorite hobby, writing to former baseball players. Once, I collected autographs. Now, I collect their stories! I’m jazzed to read about other dream jobbers here. Thank you, (former pitcher) James!

  44. My dream job would be traveling, taking photographs, coming home and working on my pastel drawings…working toward that end…but it certainly isn’t easy!

  45. Melissa says:

Being a stylist and consultant for low income women trying to get a better job.

  46. Jack Murloc says:

My dream job is to be freelance web developer who has lots of free time and to be one of the best in what I do, attending seminars all over the world and meeting many people.

    One day, one day… :)

  47. Andre Bruwer says:

Recording studio. Absolutely. A recording studio accompanied by a two or three man web, photo and graphic design business. That way I can truly live my dream job(s) and hopefully travel every year. Good times.
    :)

  48. Sophie says:

I don’t think I’d ever be able to settle for one ‘dream job’. My goal is to be happy, and being happy means constantly being challenged and having a supportive network of trusted friends. In the long run, business contacts come and go, however many promotions I attain will be a faded and irrelevant memory, but close friends and family are there to stay, and that’s what’s going to matter when I’m old and gray. That said, I’m quite happy with where I am now: mother, programmer, intrapreneur, town gossipper. Each has its own challenges and requires constant growth in diverse areas, as well as ‘staying on top’ of everything.

  49. Donny says:

My dream job is to be a CEO of a company that focuses on bringing renewable energies for humankind, that I build myself.

The dream is to make every human in this world are enjoying the same era, technologies, healthcare, and chances to choose their own dreams.

  50. Kalon says:

    James,
I loved your take on this question. I feel the same.
But I also have a dream of opening a coffee shop that’s not over priced. That uses healthy ingredients. One that has Yoga in the mornings, story time for the youngin’s in the afternoon and live music at night. A place to relax, to stimulate the community and bring it together. Also, I would have a recording studio upstairs.
In the mean time, I am looking for a job and would like to find a job that challenges my creativity, and allows me to be in a position to help others to grow and reach their own potential.
Thanks for this opportunity to post.
    Kalon

    • James Clear says:

That sounds like an awesome coffee shop. I would gladly stop by for a visit.

    • Nash says:

So why are you “still” looking for a job?? Your “dream” job is probably the best job you can take on. Be your own boss, and be as creative as you like…

I am sure it will be very rewarding at the end. As they say… find a purpose… means will follow…

  51. Stuart says:

My dream job would be in helping people reach their full potential.

  52. Janet says:

Since I’m lazy and only read the first comment (James’)… I’ll have to say that mine is very similar! My dream job shifts and transitions as I grow and evolve. Right now, I am trying to start my own freelance design business and I’m doing things like wordpress blogs, banners/headers, logos.. Since I’m just starting out I’m pretty much taking any inquiry I can get. Whether that’s FB Welcome Pages (haven’t ever done one yet but I will definitely accommodate a request!), social media, or even copywriting (yep, I’m even doing guest blogging for pay). I love how versatile my projects are and I love that I’m constantly learning new things. I see myself shifting as web shifts.. evolving with the current trends. I see myself taking my blog in new directions and making web projects that end up making passive income.. I see myself doing “personal projects” for fun but also provide extra cash.. etc. Those are things that excite me and the learning/growing/shifting/evolving process is my dream job.

  53. Warner says:

Currently I’m doing my dream job as a webdesigner/developer, but I would love to work (more) with other designers/developers in a on/off relationship for projects in a cross-border fashion.

I believe that joining an international network of creatives/techies will generate more and better ideas and work that has a wider reach and appeal to people from different backgrounds, regardless of there location.

I also love retouching in Photoshop (print and web) and I would like to do this a lot more.

  54. Michael Feeley says:

This is a great question and fortunately I am living my dream job. I am a Professional Life Coach. I assist people to meet their potential and live the lives they dream about.

I reinvented myself because two years ago the company I worked at for 13 years went under. I was a recruiter in NYC and I loved what I did — helping people find jobs. I was in a crisis when this happened. Lots of questions and fears came up for me and while I wanted to figure out what to do with the rest of my life, I didn’t know where to start or how. So, I hired a Life Career Coach to help me and it worked! I was able to meet the changes that I was facing and create a plan that kept me focused and moving forward. I went back to school and became a certified life coach myself. Now I continue helping people like I did before but in a deeper, more passionate and highly useful way. Lots of transitioning is going on in the work place and the changes are challenging but they can be seen in new, encouraging ways.

I’ll say this — You can definitely find your dream job and other people can be of great use.

    My very best – Michael

  55. Dave Wilson says:

Not sure if it would be my dream job forever, but a dream for now is good enough — I’d like to work with my hands making furniture or crafts. Cliche’d I know, but there is something about the satisfaction of physical work which you just don’t get from desk work.

As an architect, I get to draw a complete building — and I mean draw everything — only to see someone else either mess it up or get all the credit.

It’s nice to dream but it is just as good to wake up.

    dw.

  56. JRM says:

My dream job would be acting as a Business Development & Chief Global Network Executive for a social enterprise that delivers innovative teaching techniques to teenagers and young adults to develop their capacity to be leaders, innovators and entrepreneurs in the Caribbean region. My job would involve identifying and visiting similar programmes around the world to collect best practices and innovative methodologies that facilitate learning for success in the 21st century environment. It will also involve creating partnerships with organisations across the world for young Caribbean citizens to put their skills to work, learn another language and culture and establish their own networks.

    • Nathan says:

ahhhh! I suppose I was in fifth or sixth grade when I started wanting to fix the education system, if possible, or replace it. When I got to your reply, I got this feeling that your dream job should be pretty much mine. Sure enough, it is. Two differences are that I don’t have a specific set of demographics outside the U.S.A in mind and I do have the U.S.A. in mind.

Thinking government could be a means for action, I am considering a run for the U.S. Congress this year. Perhaps we would work together on ideas whether or not I actually run. My email is inathansorenson@yahoo.com

Mention James Clear’s blog in the subject line so I’ll know your email isn’t spam.

  57. Samantha says:

    Interesting question.

I don’t even know if this job really exists, but I would love to be a character development consultant for movies.

I am a therapist and life coach by trade, and do fascinating work undoing beliefs that were formed in childhood that shape who we are today.

I think it would be cool to do it backwards and add depth to a character by guessing what beliefs would need to be in place for them to think and do what they do. Ultimately adding more depth and believability (not confident that is a real word) to a movie persona.

Using ones’ prior experience and building on it to reach ones’ dream is a great way of ensuring that you will reach there one day…

Besides, your experience sounds amazing, and definitely blends into your dream job… I would suggest, if such a job description does not exist, please go ahead and ask a (casting?) director to create one. They already know the right person to pick. I think you will do just great. :)

  58. Business Optimization Consultant. I would focus only on 3 ways to grow a business:

    - more clients
    - more money/transaction
    - more buys/client.

Actually this is what I’m working on.

  59. Tim Webster says:

Pinning down one dream job is probably not going to work, so I’ve created two businesses (currently) to help move me along the road. I do still have a day job, but hopefully in the next 6-12 months I will be able to focus on my businesses full time.

With the help of a partner, I’ve created a company to develop Android accessories. When we were younger (ehh.. who I am trying to kid, even to this day) we loved video games and we were really disappointed in the on-screen controls available for mobile games today. We feel like this is limited the games themselves, and it’s just a pain in the ass to play video games on the screen of a phone. So we’ve made a Bluetooth gamepad for Android games and we’re nearing the end of development soon, and will begin manufacturing.

This job, once the company is fully up and running, will allow me to impact the development of mobile games as an industry, travel to conventions and shows like E3, and meet with new people – probably my favorite part.

Because this company has seriously no budget for marketing, we’re doing things the old fashioned way – talking to people one on one and raising awareness. The best way to do this, of course, is through the Internet. So I’ve been tossed in to the social media scene and, since February, have been spending nearly all of my free time reading blogs, attending webinars, and talking with some of the more successful bloggers about everything from the ‘feel’ of a website, to landing pages and SEO.

Because I’ve spent so much time learning, I’m trying to create a community for social media newbies at Technically Social. Right now, the business is consulting-focused, and things are going relatively well. But I am in the process of building a much more user friendly website that just is aesthetically more appealing (my fiancee says it looks girly, but I like it! So there!) and creating a community of people who are new to social media. Here, they should be able to comment on threads, guest post, and generally share knowledge they have OR get answers they are looking for.

So, between these two companies I am hoping to be able to craft a lifestyle that I truly enjoy. On one hand I get to work with video games in an evolving industry, and on the other I get to directly help others with their business. The whole operation is mostly location independent (a bonus) and run by only a few people so I get to make my own schedule.

In the future, I’m hoping to launch a blog to inspire others to start living their lives for themselves. I got really inspired by the Blog Of Impossible Things and thought it would be really cool to apply the impossible physical feats that this blogger achieves to a lifestyle. The blog would answer questions like, ‘Is it possible to break out of the cube-farm and live your ideal life?’ and then inspire others in to action.

So, yea.. lengthy reply. I’ve got a lot going on!

All this being said, I love helping others out. So if anything I’ve mentioned can help any of you readers out there in anyway, feel free to send me an email or reach out on Twitter, Facebook, etc! =)

I am a medical esthetician who has been in the industry since I was a little girl. My mother has owned her own business for over 25 years and would gladly like for me to come back home and take it over, but I have always had my own ideas, dreams, and plans for my own business. I want it to be something I created myself. Long story short … I would like to create my own skin care line and climb the long ladder of marketing and selling the product from a skin and laser clinic to Nordstroms and so on and so forth. I know that I will have to work my ass off to create my business plan and find investors but I am a hardworking, determined, LEO lioness that never gives up until success is achieved!!! After all, nothing great comes easy. ;)

I would love to do community outreach and cultural event planning for a community center in my newly adopted hometown of Berlin.

  65. Vicki says:

The job I enjoyed the most was teaching microcomputer applications as an adjunct at a small private college. I would love a job like that again – I applied earlier this year for a job in the Apple Store, but it seems they were looking for younger applicants – I was disappointed, because I so hoped to have the opportunity to teach new owners to use their devices! Really, though, any job that has a teaching element will make me happy! I so enjoy watching the light bulb light up when folks understand something they really want to know, and have been struggling with. What a great feeling, to see people learn new things!

  66. Mark says:

My dream job would be to create a story / world where a community would be encouraged to contribute to its evolution. From writing and illustration, to scripts and games, this story would allow anyone to explore themes and ideas that are important to them or the world in any media. Lofty, I know, but it would be so awesome seeing it grow and morph!

  67. Geoff says:

Create my own animation studio from the ground up, and have it be at least moderately successful.

  68. Teri Temme says:

My dream job would be interviewing people and writing their story. Not only what they did, but who they are. I know everyone has a story and it deserves to be told.

  72. Francesca Thomas says:

Having been unemployed since I left college 2 years ago, I am now looking into starting my own business. Along the way I discovered that I LOVE searching for information and doing research. I also love reading non-fiction books and learning more.

One of my previous jobs was being a reader for a press clipping service. I enjoyed the job very much — reading newspapers and magazines and marking up articles with specific keywords that the client asks for.

I am now seriously thinking of taking that online and send URLS of relevant articles to clients via email — this keeps my overhead very low — and they will be charged a small monthly flat fee. I also plan to cater only to a niche clientele — so that I dont have to read about subjects that, to me, are boring.

My problem right now is to get up the guts and the nerve to write the pitch email and send it out as a cold call email. I have no contacts in this niche industry at all. I am not really a people person.

But as someone told me today — do it now and you only have to do it once. Once you have that client, things will be much easier.

So I need to get a move on and give myself a deadline. Write some pitch letters, personalise them (find marketing managers names and emails) and send them out to 10 possible clients by the time the kids go back to school (in September).

There. It’s written down in black and white. No going back. I have to do this now. I have a deadline to keep.

    Wish me luck!!

      • Francesca Thomas says:

        Dear James,

Thanks for the links. I can’t afford the $99 right now (am on a very thin shoe string budget) but the 5 tips are excellent and I will be using them.

The price tier suggestion is also a very good tip too. I currently have one monthly flat fee price listed right now.

Now I think I will list 2 monthly fees.
The lower fee will also have some free urls and a small charge for extra urls (the per clipping fee).
The higher fee will have no url charge at all – which means no per clipping fee. If they think they are getting something for free they will be willing to pay for it, right?

I think that price tier tip is a gold mine!!!

        Thanks again.

    • Good luck Franchesca! You should def go for it.

My background is marketing, and I think your online press clipping idea is cool but needs a USP because there are so many providers of offline and online monitoring who can automate the whole thing and charge lower margins..

Your USP could be that a lot of these services are computerised – well all are and so very often they will still track things that are not relevant.. which the marketing manager or whoever has to sift out.. for a slightly higher fee you do all that for them.

just my idea and I just thought of it so thought i would share :) x

    • Nathan says:

What are your interests and fees? Aimee has a great idea. I supsected that the service you are providing is already automated except that your service filters out the junk. I’ve got a Saturday radio talk show and I’m curious what type of sevice there may be out there to help me identify content. My email is inathansorenson@yahoo.com – you can mention James Clear’s blog so I’ll know to open your email.

My dream job is to be a Professional Poker player.

OR paid drifting driver… I love cars and drifting. But I’d like to make my money from playing live poker tournaments around the world and playing cash games online. To be my own boss.

  74. Wow, these are great! I guess my dream job is kind of what I am doing now but bigger and better.

To inspire and help people better market and communicate their business especially through the use of online media – That is my core service and in additional to that to have set up and maintain at least one successful business which I am in the process of.

I agree with what people say it is not about the position, it is more the achievement and doing the things that make me happy and which I enjoy.

And of course, if I could get paid to shop all day well that might also be a dream job :)

James, I would love some tips for freelancers, new business owners on the issue of payment, not so much setting a price with clients but laying down boundaries between a proposal to getting some money in the bank before you do the work.

    Dream jobs? Quite a lot…

One of them is to be in charge of a big online magazine for technology, games etc. Choose who to interview, which news are going to be featured in the frontpage, brainstorming for new articles…

This is immensely satisfying and fulfilling. I would love to hear from anyone here on raeching their talents, insights to India, and vice versa!

  82. Kelly Hunt says:

I am very fortunate, since I get to live my dream job. I am a wedding officiant where I get to be creative, have fun, interact with a wide variety of great people, make a decent and growing income and have time for my family. Just because I already have my dream job does not mean that I am done dreaming though. I am working on a book and would love to have my own location to host weddings in the next 3-5 years. Someplace that reflects the place that I live and is very Wisconsin Chic.

I have learned that as I accomplish one dream it evolves into something a bit bigger, a bit more challenging and always more fun.

  83. Dave says:

My dream job is not having a job.

I want to do only what is interesting and exciting for me so that I wouldn’t even consider it to be a job.

I want to be able to do what I want, where I ever I want and whenever I want.

That is the true meaning of freedom for me.

  84. Early stage venture capital, and part time writer and researcher.

  85. Cathleen Wall says:

So many great comments! I don’t know what my dream job IS, but I do know what I would want it to look like. So I am putting it out there to the universe right now. I want to be location independant (I saw someone else use this term and thought it was perfect!) so I can work from anywhere. I want to be financially independant so I can choose to work or go on vacation depending on my mood. I want to feel fulfilled by doing the work and be able to help people while making enough to provide an extremely abundant lifestyle for me and everyone I love.

What is IT? I’m not sure, but there it is. Thanks for the opportunity to share and for everything that you offer to your community!

  88. Tom Groark says:

    James,

My dream job introduced itself to me several years ago without my knowledge.

Once I recognized that the job I was working at required 100% of my commitment, competence and creativity did it satisfy my criteria for a “dream job”.

Could it be that there are dream jobs going to waste out there while we are “busy making other plans”?

Is the opportunity for greatness right in front of us, right now? What if that the job you do today (translation: the way you DO your job today) requires exactly the same passion and professionalism as your dream job?

If you can honestly say that you are giving your “everything” to the job you have today, then you may already be there.

Just a thought from someone who’s dream job almost got away.

I am amazed at the depth and detail of the dream jobs that are in development or currently engaged by you readers – inspiring! Thank you for the great post.

    Tom

    Dream job..

I guess, if its truly a dream, then it can’t be a job.

Based on our educational background and social insights passed along through stories and tales.. a job is considered a work which pays. You study, pass the entrance exams and grab a job. Have wife, and kids.. and thus, complete the cycle.

    A dream is something else.

A dream is a fantasy which every person through his/her sub-conscious mind, try to see and experience.

Thus, as for me, both can’t be combined.

Yes, if the question is how do you want to spend your life, then my answer would be..

” To become an entrepreneur, an information czar.

I want to travel around the world, and photograph the moments. And then share them instantly with my readers.

I want to provide employment to the unemployed, through online marketing, as I believe, it has immense potential. Anyone with reasonable English proficiency and average IQ can beat the game. And earn more than what he is currently earning.

And I never want to work anyone else.

    Amen :)

My Dream Job is to Become A Professional Graphic Designer and Illustrator.. and Start a Company of mine for Networking and Design.

I’m Currently confused of accepting other Graphic related jobs like Photo Editor for A local studio. I’m confused because i need the money but still i’m not good with faces i can’t deal with it that much and also i don’t want to loose my time on that. but the catch is i still can do my Freelancing as a Graphic Designer.

I feel very much insecure if i go to other job than my intend.

  93. Martha says:

I would like to tell what is my dream job, since I started to work at the age of 18 years old.
Dream job is the place where people can realized himself mean to do the best, practice all the skill, help the other and gain enough to provide to his family, goods, time, honor, love in a dignity way.
For women can be the place where women feel free to do the best, realized as a person, be free to take care her children and take time to go out on time to attend a husband.. in fact no stress but a lot responsibilities, that is not something that people can realized it is just the basic things a person need. so dream job is the one were you feel comfortable as a person.

  94. Amy O'Neill says:

My dream job is to be a full-time romance writer. I’ve just released my first novel and have been promoting it alot. Being self-published involves so much more leg work than going the traditional publishing route. It is even more difficult when I have to squeeze this into my ‘free time’ since I work full time, have over an hour commute everyday, and am a mom to a 12 yr old boy. But for me it is all worth it. Writing is my passion, when I sit in front of the computer and start typing, the words just come to me. I can’t wait for the day when I can focus on the writing and achieve a greater balance with time with my son and family.

  95. Tamekia Bush says:

My dream job(s), would be teaching general psychology on a collegiate level for 6 months of the year; then travel to different cities to do motivational speaking engagements for the remainder 6 months of the year.

  96. Anything doing design/fine arts, commercial arts…

  97. Rica says:

My dream job is to be able to work for myself as a social enterprise entrepreneur. I do not have key position in mind per say, but a key idea that would be able to create the change that I would want to see in the world. It is interesting that this question is the one that I try to answer most clearly when I walk into job interviews–instead of how I fit in with the organization. I think I am finally taking strides to make it happen, but still have a long way to go. Just wish there was a clear map verse a business plan.

  98. Marc says:

My dream job would be to sell a product online and by mail order that would appeal to everyone at a discount. I could work for myself, by myself say 3 or 4 hours a day processing orders and then making bank deposits. Something with little competition and a strong demand.
I have yet to find this dream job and will probably die still looking!

  99. Peneo Thanos says:

I currently have a family owned deli/restaurant. I get to deal with all the customers. I love listening, advising and being there for each and everyone of them, whom
I know most by name. I love what I do. But my dream job is to take what I do on a much bigger scale-like on television. I would love to have my own talk show. Or be in movies. I know I’m an entertainer. I make people laugh and feel good about themselves. That’s what I love. That feeling of making people happy. It’s what I do best. Now if only I knew someone in the industry, I’d be in! Because let’s face it, it’s who you know not what. But I know I’d knock their socks off! Oh to dream!:)

  100. Lori says:

I am now 45, and my dream job has been the same since I was about 15 yrs. old. A photographer for National Geographic. I can’t imagine anything more exciting than traveling the world and photographing everything I can see through the lens of my camera.

A freelance writer runs a close second to that dream. And this is one that I am actually working on!

  101. Julie says:

My dream job is to be a digital scrapbooker for hire and also doing photography.

  102. My sense of a dream job has changed a lot in the last few years. I dream now of becoming a phlebotomist (a high demand job with stability) and running my interview website and meeting amazing people. I was once a librarian (a first dream) and I do intend to support libraries forever. Later, I will probably go for further medical education. My website, incidentally, is dedicated to interviewing people who have succeeded in their dreams of owning small businesses.

  103. Cindi says:

I would just love to be able to house sit for people who travel and would like to have peace of mind while they are gone. 104. Cindi says:

It’s me again…..I wanted to add….I am in process of writing a book (need help!). I had an eating disorder for 30 years and am finally living a dream of being able to eat. All of what went on during this and the survival of it all…..the tears and so much laughter and the disasters….and wanting to help others’ who are in this…..with lots of laughter as this is the only way to live. I need undivided focus to be able to do this. Anyone who could help, again, feel free to contact me. My goal is helping others to realize life is worth living and loving and laughing through and you are worth it through every second. With Much Love ~ Cindi ~

  105. Lisa says:

I dearly wish I knew!! I have been laid off for a year now and am still not any closer to finding my ‘dream job’

  106. My “dream job” would be to be involved in or leading a team to create something technologically or in urban architecture that will improve life and living for everyone. That’s a super broad statement but what else are we here for? Why not work to help people, a lot of people. I think a lot of invention and consumer based technology today is based on what will make money, not what will solve problems for the common person. I think being a part of something like that will be much more fulfilling than creating angry birds.

  107. Patricia says:

Mine may be a bit out of the ordinary, but my dream job is what I’m currently in school for: Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture. It cannot be outsourced as our world gets flatter, it’s a growing field as people are turning to more holistic medicine, basic start-up is cheap (a few needles to start), I can choose any destination to practice since everyone has at least one health complaint, flexible hours, I can easily treat myself if anything comes up, and most of all, the satisfaction in helping people for a living.

  108. Patty S. says:

My dream job is to teach yoga full-time. I have my 500-hour teaching certification. While still working full-time in a pharmaceutical company, I teach part-time: substituting in a local studio, and running my own class at the corporate park where I work. I’ve begun to send my resume to other studios and health clubs in the area, and am looking at some volunteer possibilities. My goal is to gain as much experience as I can while still working 9 to 5. When I go out on my own, I would like to offer private classes that will help my students develop their own home practices.

  109. Dexter says:

My dream job is to be a day-trader. I like the excitement of it, as well as the oppertunity to do well. I would love to be able to go visit my friends in different places and be able to take my work with me.

  110. Neil Bower says:

Good Morning, my dream job is cooking; be it personal, private or Hotel/Restaurant. I enjoy making a dish someone can rave about, I enjoy the artistry of making a dish. My time is morning, making an omlet to your satisfaction is important to me, different pancakes, and so on. If you live in Richmond, Va. and you NEED A GOOD COOK, please contact me and let show you, my e-mail is above. Let me work a couple of hrs for free.

  111. James says:

I would have to agree with you James. It’s all about the feeling, probably not so much the actual task.

  112. DeAnna Anger says:

My dream job is where i get to keep the money i produce. I work 12-14 hour days 5-6 days a week and i am on salary. $1500 less salary that 2 years ago.

I want to operate my own espresso shop. I love coffee and books. I hope to combine those loves and create my dream job.

  113. Stephen says:

To create a job that helps and benefits my community and also brings a profit for my families comfort without sacrificing my principles.

  114. Rose says:

I would love to travel to small towns across America and show life in some of the beautiful tucked away peaceful small towns.

  115. kit says:

My dream job is one in which I can help people and make money at the same time. I’d be happy if the income was in direct proportion to the quality and quantity of help I’m giving.

  116. Carma says:

My dream is FINALLY coming to fruition as well. I have been stuck in a….someone else gets to determine my hours and my pay and reap the benefits of MY EFFORTS for their gain…job for too long. I AM DONE. I love to educate people and watch that little “light of understanding” come on. There is no greater reward than knowing you have just made someone’s life a little better because you became a part of it. That is my dream job and it is COMING TRUE!!!!!! WhoooooHoooo!!!!!

  117. Rachel M says:

I would love to do anything with books. :)

  118. Andrew says:

My dream has always been to be doing work that allows me to be creative. I have been told by so many people around me that I should do something with writing, comedy, and acting. I am a natural performer and I love to be the center of attention (even though I would deny it if asked). I recently started getting work as an extra or “background” actor in some productions being filmed here in Georgia. The work doesn’t pay much, but now I understand when people tell me that if you like what you do the money is secondary. The days are long (standard 12-14 hours)but I have a blast when I get to do it. What I’m trying to do is avoid the classic 9to5 job so I’m available to work as an extra when called. It can be tough to do. This is why I’m trying to create passive income in some way or as I say performing “survival economics” until I get my big break. That’s what I would choose as my dream job.

  119. Timothy says:

My dream job is to be in charge of a writing consultant firm, which I’m in the process of starting. Also want to spend my time freelance writing, which I do a little of now.

  120. Hi, James

I have been so busy with medical coding. After this is done, (two more months). I am going to look for my dream Job. I love to find something to sell.

Hopefully in the Medical field, if not oh well. I’m sure if I had a product that I believed in, it would be better then selling the crap I sold in the past. Sorry I haven’t been on school’s demanding.

    Thank you Denis

  121. Maureen says:

My dream job would be to run and act in my own theatre company which creates new, relevant work and has international outreach programs.

My dream job? To be a dancer/gymnast or even on stage. I have the worst stage fright and not the best singing voice, but I think it would be not only a lot of fun but also a great experience to do either of those.
Being as busy as I am & not having the finances to sign up for classes or be physically fit is always a reoccurring issue. I currently work as a secretary & let me tell you… I can’t wait to get out of there!!! I’m also taking sign language classes & really truly enjoy it. But for the most part, I’m not where I really truly want to be. Maybe someday, when I have a family of my own, I can watch them take on what I always wanted to do. I think that would make me happy :-)

  123. Lena says:

My dream job is to be a published author, but I tend to second guess myself and think the stories aren’t good enough.

If I can’t do that, I’d love to be a freelance commercial writer/copywriter.

I know what you mean. I am in the process of writing an insane and captivating story, but everyday, I go through it over and over again correcting my “mistakes”….frustrating.

  124. Atoinette says:

I have a great job but I’d like to combine the freedom of not being tied to my desk with helping others…motivating them to be the best they can be. I came to both exercising and going to school during my middle years and I know there are a lot of people there that don’t believe that they still have the time and energy to enrich their lives.

  125. Sergio Felix says:

I don’t know what my dream job would actually be.

But I’m pretty sure that if I could travel, run marathons all over the world, play guitar whenever I want, share vacations with my partner where and when I want, I’m pretty sure I’d be VERY happy.

If I can obtain that with Internet Marketing, then so be it.

I’m working my butt off to make it happen, will I succeed, who knows! ;-)

  126. Linda Lim says:

My dream job is to be in the creative line in the TV industry. I am now working as a On-air promotions producer and I must say it is my dream job! For where on earth do you get paid to watch TV? And to create memorable spots that stick in the audience mind? I’d love to be a Creative Director and be leading a team some day. :)

  127. Joy says:

My dream job is not necessarily one position, it is a Feeling. My dream job allows me to create from my place of truth and passion in each stage of my life. As I create, I give myself the freedom of full expression and I am open to receive abundance in all realms. As my truth and passion evolves, so too does my specific “job duty”…

  130. Tommy O says:

Jumpin’ in late with this one… Having spent 20+ years (each) in two different careers with no real complaints… I would now love to be involved in the buying and selling of vintage automobiles. Since I don’t have the capital to do that on a personal level, perhaps I could do it for collectors on a commission basis… or get involved with an auction house like Mecum. Cars have been my “passion” my whole life… icing on the cake would be to make money from the hobby!

  131. Nicole says:

Traveling for free and blogging about it.

  132. Sandra says:

My dream job was as an interior decor artisan. I designed people’s rooms and applied decorative plaster and paint finishes which I created specially for each client. It was creative, profitable and very satisfying work. My clients loved my work. I loved my clients. 2008 brought the crash of the housing market and the demise of my business. No recovery in sight…but I at least had the satisfaction of having had the experience of my dream job. I have officially retired and read your post for suggestions that may benefit my son. You are providing a wonderful service.

  133. Joy says:

My dream job is to paint full time. That could mean several things. Painting portraits, painting fine art, or designing and painting sets for the theatre. The most satisfaction I have ever had is working in a theatrical scene shop designing, overseeing the build, and painting sets. It was one of those moments when I knew I was doing what I was born to do.

  134. Kevin says:

I have a dream job. I work in the ER as a critical Care Tech. I work 6 twelve hour shifts in a row and then take 8 days off. An excellent way to run a business between me and my wife but not have to worry about health insurance and other benefits that are so expensive for the self-employed.

Working on an internet-based program right now…I’m no programmer by far, just an endless idea machine…but i have a friend who is.when i can share my visions and have others turn them into a reality while we all get paid a healthy sum… I will be in my dream position. For now i’m still working at it.

  136. Miguel says:

I can happily say I already have my dream job. Since I was a kid, I always wanted to work with animals, and I was lucky enough to be working as an animal trainer in Europe for around 10 years.
During this period I got to learn and work with some of the best names in the industry, and on January 2011 decided to start my own consulting company on the side of my day-to-day job. That’s how I came across passivepanda.com, and I’m hoping to develop my business in this coming year.

Although I already feel I have my dream job, I’d have to say that to be completed I need to get this new project (consulting for zoos) up and running… Gotta keep dreaming!!

For traditional information on career and job hunting: try About.com.
If you search the Web, it contains very valuable resources and a compendium of content on the Internet. (Just be sure it’s not solely based from Wikipedia :)
Also, there is a professional networking site known as “Linked In.” You can utilize the site for free and numerous opportunities can abound from the connections you make here.
Besides your career planning, I am a bit more philosophical. I like to write my intentions on developing differnt aspects of myself, how I plan to do this which would translate into the work I would like to do, and why I want to do this work as well?

Such diverse and wonderful entries here for your dream jobs! My dream job is to explore ideas and places, create and share these ideas and follow my passions while earning a substantive living doing it! I value freedom and creativity/collaborating on ideas as well as generosity in making a difference. This translates for me into being published for my writing, being a consultant to help organizations improve and evolve, teach and develop unique courses for students at the college level, and start my own non-profit or charity. I also would like to work in the public sector. I don’t know if my list is too ambitious, but I don’t see myself working in one career area for my whole life. Thoughts? May you pursue your dream jobs and have fun doing it…Cheers!

My dream job would consist of being independent of location and time constraints. I am a current home based business owner and I love to help individuals to understand and reach for their goals. At the present time, I have some time constraints but as time and knowledge evolve my thinking, I am learning what it is that I want and fine tuning my thinking and my goals.

  147. Jim B says:

James – I might have a couple of dream jobs, although they each revolve around either building, or the water, or both. I’ve been an avid boater all my life, and involved in the residential building industry over the last decade. I enjoy the creativity and accomplishment of building or renovating homes (although the current market makes it a ‘challenging’ profession. Although I’ve often thought about being a harbor pilot – something I think would be a very cool profession. Pehaps combining the two above, would be boat building. Another market in the tank, but something I think I would really enjoy.

  148. Carolyn says:

I already have my dream job — freelance editing and writing, working from my home — but my dream is to make it more financially successful so I can support my family alone with enough left over to have retirement money, pay off the house, upgrade my transportation, and be able to take a vacation now and then, all on 20-30 hours per week. As well, I dream of dumping the less satisfactory clients on my list and replacing them with all wonderful ones.

I grew up in a family owned retail business, really enjoyed working with my family, the customers who became friends, helping people solve their problems, shut it down end of ’02. Small town America changing. I’ve done a variety of things since: insurance sales, carpentry, logging, roughnecking, now carpentry again. Time with my family is the priority for me. I want to look back and realize that I was able to help my son not do some of the foolish things and take some of the paths that I took. It’s very satisfying to be able to help others, so my goal is “having all sufficiency in all things so much so I abound to every good work” I’m getting there. Life is good.

My dream job comprises of many but one that I’ve taken on since I was young was to be a Radio DJ.

  159. Guy says:

    My dream job is:

To be a professional blogger. In fact, it was how I found you initially. I was searching for successful bloggers to follow and learn from so I could learn the ropes to making a living at it.

One thing I have learned about myself is that I like writing in my own blogs but I don’t like getting paid to write for someone else. Strange – since it’s the same activity.

It’s been the pattern of my whole life. I love the activity if I am self-employed. I hate the activity if I am in an “employee.”

It’s been a double-edged sword for me; I have lived some of my life with lots of money and success. And other parts of my life – broke and destitute.

By the way, you are #1 favorite blogger. I have read every post.

  160. My Dream Job is to be an effective writer and speaker in the field of online marketing. I quit my job last year and starting a web development business coupled with internet marketing which help SMEs to get their business online. I am 23 years old and took risk to not be an employee for the rest of my life.

  161. My dream job is to utilize my renaissance gifts/personality/ to share divinely guided inspiration every day.
My favorite joy is to share musically with original songs/music, while accompanying on the piano.
Next, I would love to facilitate coaching groups where people connect with their passions and ways to bring them into their lives.
I also love to facilitate physical/emotional healing with various complementary therapies.
Part of my ideal “job” is writing, just snippets of this and that…..things that often go unnoticed in the world and mean the world, in a larger sense.
I feel excited, optimistic, and filled with hope just writing this. Thanks!

James, Love your stuff! I even linked a recent post of yours to my blog on life and happiness. To me the ideal career is
. One that so consumes me I don’t notice the day going by.
. One that is so fulfilling I wake up at night with ideas for it.
. One that supplants the idea of TGIF, because I don’t want to stop!

  165. Karl Cregeen says:

    Hi all,

I always thought i had my dream job – i am a weapons engineer in the Royal Navy and for a while that was very much true but due to compulsory redundancy looming at the end of March I’ve had to re-think my position in the world. To that end I’ve found myself not one but two dream jobs – staying with the life at sea theme i have gained a job as a Geophysical Engineer on survey vessels – generally surveying the sea bed looking for Unexploded ordinance. This new position is working a rota system of 4Weeks on – 4weeks off giving me lots of time at home with my family. Fabulous i here you all saying 6 mths of the year at home, Unfortunately i happen to be the kind of person who gets very bored and agitated if my mind isn’t working all the time so i set about looking for a part time job or work from home – instead i found a way to set up my own marketing business as an authorised distributor for the Utility Warehouse – this is a challenge to begin with as I’m not a sales minded guy but if it turns out as i expect it to the rewards could be truly amazing and it could actually overtake my wages from the ‘Day Job’ within 5 years and create a nice nest egg which will just keep growing with residual income. so in short if all goes to plan for the next five years i will have not one but two ‘Dream Jobs’ and i WILL get that Big Classic American Car which I’ve promised myself for years !!
Onward and upward – Health & Happiness

I would love to share the joys of veganism and vegan cooking, with people that were interested.
I love to cook and I love to feed people. I’m not all that particularly social, though I do like to get out there once in while and mix it up with the common people. Not yet sure how that translates into a career, but I’m open to suggestions and possibilities.

  167. Been an accountant right after graduating and passing the board exam and work for nearly 8 years as an accountant and my dream job is to be an accountant but not as an employee of a company but as an accountant of my own firm. Helping people with their finances is fulfilling and with that I guess I have to gain more knowledge beyond debits and credits to truly serve my future satisfied clients. Not only that I would like to have clients even outside of my country so that I can travel :)

My dream job would involve doing something that most people found valuable. It would allow me to set my own hours and to work most of those hours from my home. I want to be available to my small children when they need me and my dream job would work around them. I want to be able to work from anywhere, so we could move if we wanted, or take vacations when we wanted. My dream job would also allow me to make a huge income.

My dream job is customer related work in a senior managerial position since am a middle level manager now.

  171. Stephen says:

It would take great pleasure in downsizing the government as it has gotten way out of hand, the hands of the people of this country. My quest is that the political rhetoric would be silenced, that everyday people had a voice and no one went unheard. If this seems like to monumental a task for one person than I solicit each and everyone of you to stand up and join hands to stop the madness. I am not talking about anarchy, but a clear understanding of what the American people must do to take back what is rightfully theirs. This country was based on “less government” for this country. We are in a quagmire of altered verbatim and special interest groups. I think that the only special interest group is the American people. If we only truly avail ourselves to the realization that how much longer are we going to let ourselves be dragged down, because of the decisions of inept politicians. This country needs the opportunity of solidarity why does that seem so fruitless an endeavor. And by the way as long as I have a place to sleep and a meal a day that’s all the pay I would require.

  172. Makeba says:

  174. Sarah Fulmer says:

My dream job is Clutter Consulting and I’m already doing it, just nowhere near full time yet. If it were up to me I would spend all my time standing in attics and basements, purging and releasing the stories from inside the stuff so the person in charge of it can get their power back. It’s a hard, emotional job, but it’s also a powerful and empowering job and it’s the one I want to do for the rest of my life. If I were better at marketing myself I would be knocking my financial goals right out of the park. Funny how my job is to uncover the hidden gems and secret dreams and then clear the space so my clients can dance and breathe and do and be, but I’m not so great at doing it for myself. Even a professional needs other people. Here’s to a great year for all of you.

    • analogfoto64 says:

Sarah, that is a very challenging yet needed service. We have a chronic hoarder in our family. I’ve been on “damage control” more times than I want to say.

  175. Trish Thompson says:

My dream job is to run a non-profit organization which will help disenfranchised individuals rise above their station in life and become successful, viable members of society. For this to work optimally, these individuals must be effected in their first years of life.

The target is the parents of demographically at-risk kids. The plan is to help those parents give their kids the best available first 5 years possible. This can be achieved through a combination of parent education coupled with the provision of resources & tools. This is not a “welfare” program for the parents. It is geared toward parents who will put their children first and be satisfied that giving their children a future is enough for them.

  176. Drew Warmath says:

Great question, easy answer. A “behind the scenes” logistics/networking position with a small non-profit that concentrates on disaster relief.

  177. Adriano Campos says:

I have been a foster parent for 14 years and I have always worked with teenagers. Lately I have been looking for a new career. I want something that is more fulfilling, so I say. This morning I had a phone call from a former foster child who is now 30 years old. She used to be a heroin addict and is now clean and has a beautiful daughter who I spend a lot of time with. She told me how much of a difference I have made in her life and how some days she couldn’t do life without me. I love her and she told me that she loves me so much.
I guess I actually HAVE my dream job and should appreciate the opportunity I have to impact other peoples lives in a profound way.

    • Drew Warmath says:

Barb, I live in a town that supports an extended care facility for troubled teens. Several of my friends are foster parents for teens transitioning and also accept emergency placements. I cringe to think where many of these kids would be without the positive influence you and other provide. The results may not be seen for many years, but I’m glad you were able to see the results of your efforts. Be blessed!

Hi James, now I am in need of a job on the internet. A very simple thing, because my knowledge in developing web pages eh precarious. I want to do mini sites to sell ebooks and other things … It would have a yield of about one thousand U.S. dollars a week … That would be ideal today … A strong hug to all readers of Passive panda …

  183. Maximillian says:

For me, everyday has to be fun. And pulling ideas from my head, then seeing them come to life would the best “job” in the world. I have vehicle designs, inventions, characters, stories, programs, artwork, and so much more. Its taken 2 years now, and im finally getting my first book published. Though it was too slow for me. Having a team of people would have produced it quicker and would also do the same for my other projects. I literally have hundreds of projects, which most of are unique and others are improvements on other ideas. I have. A very active mind, and always have ideas ( which many individuals would love to have have) I tend to find overwheleming. Especially since there are so many at times.

  184. David Olinger says:

My dream job. Right now I am 1 to 3 years away from retiring from teaching. I will have taught American History, Government, or Economics for 30 to 33 years as well as coached varsity boys basketball for the same amount of time. I got a late start on having a family, I have a third grade daughter and a first grade son. I am 53 years old and I dream of starting my own business, one that I can work hard at but still have time for my family. Possibly a business which could be handed down someday to my children – if they so choose. I don’t know what business that could be, but I am looking and hope to find something in which I can be my own boss as well as something which will be profitable.

I have two different dream jobs I guess. First, I want to write for TV, but more specifically I want to write for a sketch comedy show like SNL where there is a very hectic week to week schedule. I want that kind of environment, but only for something fun like writing comdey. The environment would not be nearly as interesting if it was in some other field. The other dream I have is to be a astronaut and go into outer space with the NASA Civilian Astronaut program.

  191. James, mine has become more of an obsession the past few days. I was recently an unfulfilled freelance designer that for whatever reason shifted focus.

In one sentence my mission is: To help feed 1,000,000+ people in need from the sells on my website.

I have a few dream jobs. One is to cook for groups of people who are hiking/camping. Next, and I’m not even sure this job exists, but I want people to run their commercial and radio by me first before airing them so I can see if it accomplishes their goals and is error free. I’ve seen Nike air TV spots with birds flying in the background, mistakes, errors, wrong usage of phrases, etc. I guess it’s sort of a quality control thing, but that’s my dream. First Pass Marketing, I’ll call it.

I like this idea! I come from a QA background of 15 years. Huge potential, once you sell your clients on the value of the service. Far too often, the “good enough” mentality ruins an otherwise brilliant ad piece.

Susan.. Another thought I had for your first dream gig. How about the old frontier “Chuckwagon”? Picture a high-line all terrain food truck that could go and cook about anywhere? Cook over open fire or onboard with clean burning gas.

Dial in the menu for “hiking food”, with vegan and healthy options. Flapjacks, homemade oatmeal, camping favorites. Gourmet s’mores.

I’m sure you thought of all of this… I’m just sharing my early morning espresso/creative mindset.

        Cheers.

  194. Thank you for asking. My dream job isn’t a job… it’s a lifestyle.

At this point in time I’m a freelance copywriter and a network marketer. I’m using those interests to build my lifestyle… writing for pleasure and helping people become independent.

My dream job right this minute would be a freelance yacht/boat photographer. Someone has to take quality photos of those boats and yachts put up for sale. I would of course have this as an income stream in addition to travel writer/photographer. I’m working on all of this.

My ideal job is a job that I can do what I want when I want. None of this nine til five business. A job that would allow me to be creative and to create things whether it be a book, a picture or a static object. I like to travel, look into other cultures and ways of life. I like to think the ridiculous and question the facts. I like to help others too so maybe my ideal job would be to be an author and artist. How can you help me get to where I need to be?

  203. Quentin says:

My dream job is a list of characteristics right now because I haven’t figured out what it is yet I want to do.

I want to work with people, be able to see my progress and results, help people solve problems, i want to provide a service potentially a product, make money an have freedom to enjoy it, I want to be my own boss an run my own company!

My interest are exercise an fitness, reading books, writing songs, traveling when I have time and money, and I love looking at new homes in the real estate magazines. I have a degree in business and currently do procurement for automotive manufacturing plants. I know when I figure it out I’ll go all in but I’m just having the hardest time selecting what I want to do.

Somebody give me some sound advice!

  204. Élan says:

Sometimes I feel like my dream job is anything part time, so I can pursue my own projects and passions with the rest of my time. Still, I hope someday to find a job that matches my skills with my interests. I would love to work for a nonprofit/ngo that helps refugees. That’s truly a cause I feel passionate about, and I’m always happy working with refugees.

Lately, I’ve done some life coaching work (without even realizing it at first), and I love that too. I feel SO happy and excited when I’ve helped motivate someone to take their goal or project to the next level. I can see myself doing a bit of that, too. :)

Great question–thanks to everyone else who responded. It’s been a pleasure reading the responses and now I feel even more conflicted. You’ve all suggested some awesome jobs!

  205. David says:

My ultimate dream job would be where I could work 9-5 Mon-Fri, 50-60k year. I work in the auto industry, i have worked retail my entire life, so therefore i have never had Saturdays off, not once. This has led to the neglect of my family, i was never able to spend time with my daughter when she played sports, her mom coached her team. She is now 20 and me 45. I would love to be able to get out of this ratrace car business and become a normal person.

  206. Kami says:

    what a loaded question…

right now, i think i’d love to just be able to work from anywhere, maintaining my site. the internet is so vast, and with that vastness comes a bit of intimidation. the site is just information sharing, connecting women to sources for products that they may not have been aware of. not a new idea, but certainly with a new spin because, well, it’s from me. :)

  207. Well, first of all my dream doesn’t include the word “job” in it. I do have a lifestyle I aspire to achieve whereby I am able to use my creativity to inspire others to realize they have the power to reach a little further than what’s comfortable to achieve their own dreams, and to use my artistic ability (a genetic gift from dear old Dad) to bring beauty and a little more color to the world. Humm, oh wait – I’m doing that now!

  208. Evon says:

I would love to spend the rest of my life being a humanitarian photographer, specifically, documenting, highlighting and creating awareness about the lives of women survivors of war in Bosnia & Herzegovina.

    Hi

I am full time web developer. I can make a decent design for a website. But I would like to become successful affiliate marketer.

That would be my dream job. Note the word successful. Not just affiliate marketer. Successful is the keyword here.

Since I know how to create website by my self, it would be ideal job for me. What is stopping me? Two things: Sucessful website needs traffic and my budget is $0. Second: Niche. I have read that It should be something that is my hobby or subject that I know well but that is easier said than done.

My goal is to make profit, not to pursue my interests or hobbies.

I would like to see how can anyone help me.

From the other side, if anyone else think that I can help him, fell free to drop me a line, I would be glad to help.
